Preparing for the Winter Break Closure
Regis University is committed to sustainability and being as environmentally conscious as possible on our campus. This commitment requires assistance from the entire campus community. One of the main ways that we are able to save on energy consumption is through our set temperature designations and thermostat set-backs for unoccupied or closed spaces. During normal campus business hours, the thermostats across campus are set so that the temperature is kept between 72-75 degrees. If a space becomes warmer than 75 degrees or colder than 72 degrees it will automatically be adjusted back to the set parameters. While spaces are unoccupied the heat is set back to 65 degrees and during planned campus closures the heat is set back to 60 degrees. These changes are set to occur automatically based on scheduled space and campus uses. As part of the Campus sustainability commitment, Physical Plant does not adjust individual spaces outside of the set parameters. Be sure to dress appropriately for the seasonal weather and individual office environment.
Per Fire Safety Regulations, space heaters are prohibited from being on campus. Not only are space heaters a serious fire concern, but they also draw a lot of energy consumption which increases energy usage and cost as well as can cause power outages and breakers to trip. We routinely check for these illegal space heaters on campus and ask that they be removed immediately if found. After the first request for a space heater to be removed, if it is found on site again, it will be confiscated for disposal.
Another sustainability effort that occurs every year is campus closure “plug audits”. Regis University administration requests that all personnel turn off electronic devices and equipment when leaving campus for the winter holiday break, especially during the campus closure between Christmas and New Year’s. Please be aware that during the last day before the closure, Physical Plant staff will check all office spaces on campus to confirm that lights, decorations and computers have been COMPLETELY shut off. If anything is found to be on, or if a computer is found “sleeping” the device will be turned off.
As always, Physical Plant thanks you for your cooperation and wishes you a wonderful Winter Break.
