Jesuit Worldwide Learning transition
December 31, 2021 marks the conclusion of the Regis partnership with Jesuit Worldwide Learning and the Regis Diploma in Liberal Studies.
Ten years ago, Regis University began offering twenty-five undergraduate courses online to refugees and displaced individuals throughout the world. Initially, the program was offered to learners in Kenya, Malawi and Jordan. From there, the program expanded to serve learners in Northern Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
Since the inception of the program, other Jesuit universities – including Georgetown, Creighton, and Gonzaga - have collaborated with Regis in providing the Diploma. Now, at this ten-year anniversary, learners will have a few options. At the Xavier Institute of Management in India, students can pursue either a Certificate in Liberal Studies or a Bachelor’s in Sustainable Development. Beginning in Fall 2022, Creighton University in Omaha will also offer a Certificate in Liberal Studies.
Regis has accomplished pioneering work in sharing its academic gifts of curriculum, faculty, online tutoring, administrative services, and the resources of the library with those on the margins. As a result, students throughout the world now hold a Regis credential – a Diploma in Liberal Studies.
In collaboration with Jesuit Worldwide Learning, the leadership and colleagues of Regis made the Diploma possible; Regis provided hope and empowerment to individuals who had little reason to hope for the future. To learn more about the impact of the Diploma on the lives of our Regis students, we invite you to explore “A Journey Towards Empowerment,” a research report that reveals how the Diploma became a means by which graduates and their communities were empowered to choose their own definition of development and self-emancipation.
Great thanks and appreciation are extended to Regis leadership and colleagues who taught courses in the program, tutored students, conducted academic workshops, guided library searches and prepared academic records. The Diploma is the mark of a successful collaboration among those in Jesuit education who come together for the common good. Special gratitude goes to Dr. Marie Friedemann, whose dedication and commitment has been instrumental to the program.
Announcing the First Exemplary Course Designer Award
Janeen Galligan, Communication Lecturer in the School for Professional Advancement, is the first to be awarded the Exemplary Course Designer badge for the work she has done for Communications 467. Her meaningful integration of the Jesuit Values within the course and innovative assignments providing opportunities for collaboration and peer feedback, are two of many outstanding ways this course has met the Regis Characteristics of High-Quality Online Courses.

Alumna named first NASA physical therapist
Major Danielle Anderson has been named NASA’s first physical therapist. Maj. Anderson received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University in 2012 and was commissioned into the Air Force after graduating. She will be stationed at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and serve within the Musculoskeletal Team as a physical therapist—NASA’s first ever.
Working closely with flight surgeons, Maj. Anderson will support the astronauts “prior to a mission, on board the International Space Station, [and] returning from space.” She will also bring information and training back to the Air Force to help prepare physical therapists to treat in aerospace environments. Her expertise and passion for military PT make her an asset to the program.
