Crest Replacement
The University Crest, originally made of painted concrete, located on the fire lane between O'Connell and DeSmet Halls, is being replaced with more durable colored brick pavers in blue and gold colors with a gray border. This project began on Monday, October 11, 2021.
One of the major impacts to the community has been the noise from jackhammering to remove the concrete that made up the old crest. This work began at 9 a.m. each day and continued into the first couple of days. Most importantly, for the duration of the project, which is expected to last approximately 10 days (weather permitting), pedestrian access has been completely shut down in the west/east direction, including the stairs that lead to the Field House, while the south/north pedestrian pathway across this area has been maintained, albeit reduced in width. Staging for the project is at the southeast corner of O'Connell Hall near the HESL entrance.
We apologize for any inconvenience this project may cause, but we think that you'll soon agree the replacement was sorely needed once the new crest is complete.
Thank you for your patience!
