Catching Up with Cody: Recharging Batteries

Dear Colleagues,

I am now 10 weeks into my immersion as Interim President. I enjoy the energy of the campus and the community. I also have realized, and appreciate more than I ever have, the energy required and expended in any given semester and academic year. As we go into the final stretch, I know that even more is required of all of you to get to the end. I hope that you can find ways to recharge. Like the warning of a “Low Battery” on a cell phone or laptop, I hope you can plug in. 

As we move toward graduation, for the Class of 2022, take a minute to share your appreciation for an extraordinary colleague who day in and day out delivers on the ordinary and expected. Thousands of amazing things happen at Regis University every day. Before you move to the next item on your list or calendar, take a moment to show yourself some gratitude for completing the last task, lesson plan, exam, conversation or meeting.

Back to Brené Brown, “Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.”

As we prepare for the return of students this Fall, we also need to do a better job of sharing and celebrating milestones and accomplishments.  Whether a new contract, partnership, book, article, certificate or degree, we can and will do better in sharing in one another’s successes.  More to come at our Town Hall on Wednesday, April 6.

Until then, we are reminded of St. Ignatius’ advice to his inner circle to meet the people they were serving “where they are.”  I know that every day we are focused on meeting our students where they are.  As we sprint to the finish line, let’s hone in on one another’s tempos and energy levels and meet our colleagues where they are. Thank you for all you do for our students, teams and colleagues.
