Tony Ortega recently unveiled a new community mural that celebrates the Northside Chicano and Indigenous community. LaRaza Park was recently renamed; it sits just a few minutes from Regis, between 38th and 39th Avenues off Navajo and Osage Streets.
Grants
Dr. Nick Kallan and Dr. Surendra Mahapatro have once again received Western Alliance to Expand Student Opportunities (WAESO) grants through Arizona State University. This year’s grants total $25,208 and will support 10 underrepresented minority students with $1500 stipends for their involvement with undergraduate research projects during the semester. Twenty peer-study group participants will receive $100 stipends for attending review sessions (in general, organic and health sciences) conducted by Dr. Mahapatro mostly on Saturdays. Regis University is the only Colorado institution of higher learning engaged in this partnership with ASU. At a time of considerable financial difficulties for our students, the WAESO stipend is a source of some relief; it is also an opportunity to attract and retain students in the STEM fields. Thank you, Drs. Kallan and Mahapatro for supporting our students!
