Amador reflects on grace in op-ed
An op-ed by Associate Dean Tristen Amador was published in the Denver Post’s YourHub section. In “Moving forward, together, with grace,” she discusses how to receive grace and extend it to others: “A lot of people use the word grace in the context of faith, while others use it more generally to mean kindness, consideration or goodwill. Regardless of how it is defined, giving or receiving grace can be useful and positive.” Thanks to Tristen for this beautifully written piece. Read more here.
Supporting Indigenous Sisters - An International Print Exchange
For the month of March, The Dayton Memorial Library’s Fireside Gallery will host an exhibition of this professional print portfolio exchange, which involves a group of 16 artists; 8 of Indigenous background and 8 of varied backgrounds. The Indigenous artists were invited by Melanie Yazzie, Professor of Art Practices and Head of Printmaking at the University of Colorado. The other artists were invited by Catherine Prose, Professor of Art at Midwestern State University.
The portfolio was created to help begin a conversation on many levels about missing and murdered Indigenous women. The images from all the women artists act as an advocacy for change and for voicing the dark present history. What we believe connects us in our support of our sisterhood to be safe and healthy. We want to help further a conversation on many levels as women supporting each other. And as Women, we all have had our individual and collective experiences in keeping our bodies and families safe. We asked that for this portfolio the artists reach into their own experiences as a female walking this earth. We see the rise of hashtags becoming movements like #blacklivesmatter, #metoo, #nastywomen, #womenrising, #resist, #nomorestolensister, and #MMIW and want to join and speak about what we have experienced or witnessed and are still witnessing and experiencing as women. Since the creation of this portfolio, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announces the creation a special unit to investigate missing and murdered Native Americans.
An opening reception will take place Thursday, March 17, 4-6 p.m.
