Grants 

Dr. Erin Winterrowd (Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience) was chosen to be a 2022-23 ARC Virtual Visiting Scholar. The ARC Network is a collaboration between the National Science Foundation and WEPAN (Women in Engineering Proactive Network), focusing on achieving gender equity for faculty in academic STEM.  

Dr. Fred Gray (Professor of Physics and Astronomy) was notified of the renewal of his $250,000 grant with the National Science Foundation titled “Testing Fundamental Symmetries with Muon Experiments." This project was featured last year in this New York Times article.  

Hannah Miller (Digital Initiatives & Archives Librarian) was recently awarded a grant from the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board, which will be used to digitize our Jesuitica collection. 

Publications 

Alyse Knorr’s new book GoldenEye, a work of documentary and pop culture analysis published by Boss Fight Books, earned almost $50,000 in sales in its first two weeks after launch. More information is available here.

Presentations 

David Bauman presented on leadership, ethics, and AI at two European conferences this summer. At the Philosophy of Management conference at Oxford University, he presented on Pascal’s advice that leaders must remember that they are equal to their followers but have additional moral obligations. During the 7th World Congress of the International Society of Business, Economics, and Ethics in Bilbao, Spain, David presented a model of justice that can inform how AI designers and managers should manage AI hiring systems. “I’m encouraged that academics and practitioners from many nations are actively addressing leadership and AI ethics,” he said. 

Amy Hezel recently presented “’Hack writing. Housework. Sewing.’ Writerly occupation in Nella Larsen’s Quicksand”, virtually for the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP) Annual conference, Power of the Written Word in Amsterdam.  

Tyler Imfeld recently presented a paper "Global diversification and biogeography of the wrens, gnatcatchers, and allies (Certhioidea)" with collaborator Keith Barker at the American Ornithological Society and Birds Caribbean 2022 joint meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  This presentation outlined a project that provides the most comprehensive evolutionary history of a globally distributed group of skulking, insectivorous birds, including many species found right here in Colorado.
