Meet our new Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator
The Legal Affairs office is pleased to introduce our new Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator, Kassandra Alberico. Kassandra comes to us from New York where she worked as a Criminal Prosecutor. Kassandra graduated from Villanova School of Law and throughout her time there she worked in several District Attorney’s offices, aiding in the prosecution of felony sex crimes. She also worked in an anti-sex trafficking clinic and then as an Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County, New York. Her areas of focus were Special Victims Prosecution and prosecutorial reform. As the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator, Kassandra is a mandatory reporter. Her office is in Main Hall 133, and she can be reached through her email at kalberico@regis.edu.
Student Affairs welcomes new assistant director for VAVP
The Student Affairs Division is pleased to announce that Shanese McGregor will join Regis on Dec. 7, 2022, as the new assistant director for the Victims Advocacy and Violence Prevention program. The program will be moved under the Student Wellbeing unit, under the supervision of Dr. Steven Zeeh. McGregor comes to us from Vanderbilt University where she serves as the prevention educator and victim resource specialist. With more than eight years of experience in the field, her previous positions include survivor advocate at Kansas State and Ball State and family case manager for the Department of Child Services for the State of Indiana. McGregor holds a BA in psychology and an MA in student affairs administration and currently is pursuing an MSW. Her scholarly focus is on intimate partner violence in underserved communities at predominantly white institutions.
Until McGregor joins Regis in December, please remind students that Lori Maes, senior paralegal in Legal Affairs, is a confidential resource as are staff in university ministry and health and counseling services. Eric Barnes will continue to supervise and support the student staff in the VAVP office as mandatory reporters. Kassandra Alberico, our new Equal Opportunity and Title IX coordinator, also is a resource. We look forward to having McGregor join us and invite you to welcome and support her.
Campus shows support during Queer Solidarity March
The Queer Solidarity March was on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Over 200 students, faculty and staff braved the frigid temperatures to show support for our Regis Queer community. The event highlighted speakers from across the University and culminated in a march around Boettcher Commons with candles, flags, and signs of support. The march ended back where it began with closing remarks, prayer, and a call to action that continues to inspire us to live up to our Jesuit Mission.
Regis Debate Team Shines
Last weekend, the Regis debate team had their most successful tournament in over twenty years. The debate team participates in a league that does online debating. They have four online tournaments and a year-end championship tournament in April that Regis is proudly co-hosting. Last weekend was the second tournament of the season, with forty-four teams in the competition. Two individuals from the Regis debate team finished first in all four rounds along with the semifinal and final round. Hans Gebauer and Isabelle Willhite, who is currently studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain tied for first place as top speaker with perfect scores. To determine who won first speaker, a coin toss was done, and Hans was appointed the winner. The success of these debaters is incredible as they only know their topics fifteen minutes prior to their speech, and they performed flawlessly. We are so proud of the debate team, and we cannot wait to see their success in the next two tournaments!
