A Message from President Aceves

Dear Colleagues,

Regis University’s Strategic Plan stresses how we educate students who have cultivated habits of paying attention to the world around them, of reasoning in clear and critical ways, of reading widely and deeply, of communicating effectively, of listening generously to others, of exploring their own depths reflectively and openly, of generously helping others, especially those most in need, of caring for the health of our planet, and of always practicing gratitude.

As I reflect on Regis’ commitment to delivering an excellent, mission-driven education, I asked Maria del Valle Bohorquez, Dean of Regis College to share her vision and highlight some of the ongoing work underway at the College. Here is what she shared.

“Regis College houses a broad and diverse community; we are the largest college on campus and home to a multitude of programs and people. As I begin my second year as academic dean, I always return to the idea that we “serve as a model for liberal arts and science and education in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition.” Over the last year, I have had the privilege to get to know faculty, staff, and students. I am impressed by our faculty’s dedication to our students and each other, the commitment of our staff to serve the needs of faculty and students, and by our students who are active participants in the University community. Our students consistently search out opportunities that explore the question, “How ought we to live?” in countless ways.

We are faced with many challenges one of the most pressing has been related to the response to our changing student population. I am proud to say that we have risen to these challenges. This year, Regis College is continuing the full integration of the former School for Professional Advancement which has led to the development of new online courses. The curriculum allows for a more flexible, blended model of education that meets the needs of more students. Our new designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) has energized faculty to seek new opportunities to serve our students such as grant writing and new partnerships. Our faculty members continue to evaluate and reflect on current pedagogy and implement new teaching strategies to include more marginalized voices and perspectives into the curriculum.

This past year, Regis College has been able to adapt to an ever-changing world through constant dialogue and a deep commitment to the mission of the University. We plan to build on our accomplishments by developing a strategic plan for the college, cultivating a mindset that will lead us to be good stewards of our resources, and exploring other resources to fund our initiatives through grants, partnerships, and fund-raising. In the spring of 2024, we will launch a Regis College Advisory Board consisting of alumni and local community partners with the goal of enhancing partnerships between alumni, and students, and the college. I believe we will continue responding to any challenges we face with compassion and a collaborative spirit.”
