A Letter from Dr. Karen Riley

Good morning Colleagues,

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We began the week honoring Dr. King, his commitment to civil rights and his profound advocacy for education.  Words to live by – every day.

We are in the throws of winter and I want to thank all of academic affairs for their planning so that we were ready for the snow day. Although the snow was not as significant as was predicted, we were able to move forward and to continue the education of our students in a seamless fashion. I appreciate the faculty who provided clear expectations on their syllabi. This is the expectation and provides strong guidance for our students. We learn a bit each time these events occur and as such I welcome your input on how we can continue to refine our processes and improve our supports to you and to our students when we experience inclement weather. We have an update on the search for the new Provost. Dr. Kari Kloos, Assistant Vice President for Mission, will be chairing the search committee. Work is underway to select committee members, if you have some ideas or requests please reach out to Dr. Kloos. Self-nominations are welcomed. Folks can self-nominate by emailing Kari at kkloos@regis.edu on or before January 25. We are planning to launch the search on February 1. Regis has the experience to lead a successful provost search process. Our most recent effort drew over one hundred highly qualified national and international candidates. We will continue to update you as this process moves forward. I will also continue to work with everyone to ensure a smooth and transparent transition. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me directly.
