Research, Scholarship and Creative Works Updates

In mid-December, a group of more than 20 faculty and staff met for a half-day retreat to discuss research and scholarship at the university. The retreat focused on defining the current culture regarding research and scholarship, what Regis is ready for and how that influences next steps, and what Regis should do in the short term to advance the trajectory towards reaching our collective and diverse goals. The Research Methods and Statistics (RMS) program at the University of Denver offers MA and PhD degrees to graduate students. Their goals as faculty are to equip the students with innovative research skills, creative educational vision, social responsibility, and sufficient experience in application of their skills and knowledge to achieve mastery. They offer graduate training and research consultation in quantitative (including research design, statistics, measurement, and assessment), qualitative and mixed methods research paradigms, along with psychometrics and program evaluation. 

University Research and Scholarship Council (URSC). 

The University Research and Scholarship Council (URSC) supports scholarly, research, creative and interdisciplinary projects within Regis University. URSC provides grants to support faculty research up to $5,000, student research up to $500, and student travel to conferences to present scholarly projects up to $500. In the current fiscal year, URSC has thus far funded 8 faculty research grants, 15 student research grants and 7 student travel grants, with another review currently underway. Beginning in April, undergraduate student research and travel funding will be available through the Undergraduate Research, Inquiry, and Scholarly Engagement (URISE) Program and faculty and graduate student research will continue to be funded through URSC.

Undergraduate Research, Inquiry, and Scholarly Engagement (URISE)  

The URISE Program serves as a resource for all undergraduate students to engage fully in their Regis experience through research and creative pursuits, and to explore options such as competitive external fellowships as they prepare for their own personal and professional success. Dr. Ashley Fricks-Gleason, Associate Professor of Neuroscience, serves as the Director of URISE and works directly with students, faculty, advisors, staff, and alumni – as well as academic and administrative partners – to support and increase student engagement in research and creative inquiry. The URISE program oversees existing initiatives, such as:  

  • Undergraduate Research Certificate 
  • Now in its second year, the certificate is seeing phenomenal growth and interest from both students and faculty. Currently 38 undergraduates are pursuing this certificate as part of their degree plan.  
  • Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURAS) 
  • The 2nd annual event will be hosted on April 19th, from 3:00-7:00pm in Claver Hall and will welcome all Regis undergraduate students to present their scholarly and creative works to the community.  
  • R.E.G.I.S. Research Camp 
  • The Rangers Empowering Girls in STEM (R.E.G.I.S.) Research Camp welcomes 6th-8th grade girls and gender-expansive youth to campus each summer for a week of inquiry-based learning led by female STEM faculty and undergraduates.  
  • Science Sunday 
  • This annual event will return to campus on April 16th after a pandemic-related hiatus. We are thrilled to welcome local children and their families back to campus for a day full of STEM activities and demonstrations led by Regis undergraduates.

Regis University Institutional Review Board (IRB) 

The Regis University Institutional Review Board (IRB) protects the rights and welfare of humans participating as research subjects as required by federal regulations. The Regis IRB is composed of Regis faculty members and a community member unaffiliated with Regis. 

Researchers submit their materials to IRB via IRBNet which allows IRB reviewers to review the full proposed project which may include an application from, a consent form, surveys, questionnaires, principal investigator training, etc. The IRB uses the New Protocol Reviewer Form to review all the materials, and may request additional or revised materials, to determine if the research participants are adequately protected.

If your profile is incomplete, or if you have new accomplishments to add, a fresh headshot, or a revised bio, please send them to the MarCom Web Team by submitting the Web Request form, found at one.regis.edu/marcom.  

Please follow these guidelines for your profile materials:  

  1. A brief biography meeting the following criteria:  
  • No more than 200 words in length   
  • Written in the third person point of view (he, she, they)   
  • Does not include any web links (such as personal website or book sales)   
  1. Your curriculum vitae (CV) meeting the following criteria:  
  • PDF or Word format   
  • Does not include any personal contact information (such as home phone number, home address or personal email address)   
  1. Your professional headshot meeting the following criteria:  
  • Image file size is 200 kilobytes (KB) or larger   
  • White or grey background
