A Letter from Dr. Karen Riley

Good afternoon, colleagues, 

Well Spring Break has come and gone and we are entering the home stretch of the semester. I hope that you have found some time in recent weeks for some restoration and a break. Yesterday there were students out in the quad playing games — that must mean that spring is truly on its way! 

It’s hard to believe, but Commencement is just around the corner. Commencement is the most important day in the life of a university; the culmination of our students’ experience and a great celebration for the faculty who have taught them and the staff that have helped to make their degree or certificate a reality. 

As we did last year, I am encouraging faculty to be fully engaged in the ceremony. We are soliciting volunteers to serve as Faculty Marshals. Please let your Provost’s Council representative know if you would like to serve in this role. I hope that many staff will also be present at Commencement to honor and celebrate our graduates and their many accomplishments. Any hourly staff that help will be given flex time or compensated with overtime (at the supervisor’s discretion). Staff members should let either their Dean’s office know (or the Provost’s office for those within other units) of their interest in volunteering. A successful ceremony requires the participation of a large team. As always, let us know if you have any questions: provost@regis.edu.
