A day of remembrance and celebration

Join the Regis University community from Oct. 23 to Nov. 2 as we host events in honor of Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

Mark your calendars for the following events

Oct. 23-27 from 4-6 p.m.
Students and Community Members are encouraged to join local artist Maribel Arredondo, from Curious Paper, in Student Center Room 217E to craft both a Dia de Los Muertos arch and muñeca lele that will be used as decorations on campus! We are also accepting donations of cardboard boxes and tissue paper for all crafts!

Oct. 24 from 5-6 p.m.
Join SOMOS in Loyola 6 as they make the traditional cempasúchil (Marigold) flowers that are used as decorations during Dia de Los Muertos!

Oct. 25 from 3-5 p.m.
Join us in the University Ministry Lounge, Student Center Room 212, for some calavera coloring and conversation with some of our Student Leaders from Ministry and RUSGA!

Oct. 26 from 3-5 p.m.
Join 1LEADS in the basement of the student center to make papel picado, traditional decorations for De de Los Muertos!

Nov. 1
Regis will welcome approximately 150 high school students from Denver area schools on campus to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The students will be displaying mini-Altares they have created on the second floor of Main Hall. During their full-day visit with us, they will be given a tour of campus, enjoy lunch and take part in campus activities. Please be sure to welcome our guests when you see them walking around!

Nov. 2 from 4-6 p.m.
A celebration of Dia de los Muertos for our Regis students, faculty, and staff. Join us for music, food, and a good time as we celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Featuring live Monarchs from the Butterfly Pavilion, a calavera craft, performance from our Regis Choir, and a prize drawing for attendees. Come dressed up to celebrate this vibrate and significant holiday!

Visit altars created by students

Throughout the week of Oct. 30, view altars created by students at Regis and Denver Public Schools in the following locations on campus:

  • Main Hall, Second floor
  • Felix Pomponio Family Science Center, Second floor
  • St. Peter Claver, S.J. Hall
  • Dayton Memorial Library, first floor
  • David M. Clarke Hall, Main entrance
  • Student Center
  • Coors Center
  • St. John Francis Regis Chapel

Are you interested in helping? Volunteering for these events is eligible for Mission Leave! Volunteers are needed for the following roles:

  • Help with set-up and clean-up
  • Meet the Denver Public Schools buses and walk students to the second floor of Main Hall
  • Accompany the high school students on a campus tour
  • Escort students to get them back on their buses at the end of the day
