- An Inclusive & Strategic Approach to Program Evaluation through Student Learning
Regis University will submit to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) a Quality Initiative Proposal centered on program effectiveness and assessment of student learning.
This initiative will represent a milestone in the continuous process of identification and implementation of a university-wide approach to assessment of program effectiveness that aligns with the institution’s new strategic plan and changing student demographics. The Quality Initiative (QI) will commence upon HLC’s approval and will move from initiative to accepted practice within three years.
The Quality Initiative aims to nurture a continuous improvement mindset, to re-store a culture of assessment at the University level, and to develop a plan that supports such a culture. One important goal of the QI includes the development of a university assessment plan that is intentionally aligned with the 2023-2028 Regis University Strategic plan. A second goal is to include academic units, co-curricular groups, and operational units in the plan.
The Quality Initiative will be designed in 3-4 Phases. During Phase I (2024-2025), an environmental scan of current assessment practices and processes will be conducted. The impact of these activities had on program effectiveness and student experience will be analyzed. Best practices for assessment, including support systems and processes, will be identified.
In Phase II (2025-2026), a plan for assessing program effectiveness and student learning will be developed based on the data and information collected in Phase I.
During Phase III (2026-2027), the plan for assessing student learning and program effectiveness will be implemented. Potentially, this phase would be piloted by a few units to review and assess the new plan.
In Phase IV (2027-2028), before the visit of HLC to Regis University, the new plan would have been implemented and adopted by all units in the University.
Several groups and individuals of the University will lead or be directly involved in both the development and implementation of the QI. Please reach out with any questions, and please stay tuned for more updates.
