Ed Perez named director of Campus Safety
Regis has announced that Ed Perez has been named the Director of Campus Safety, effective June 10.
Perez, who has been with Regis for more than 18 years, previously was in active service for the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. For the next 20 years, he was a security police officer for the Department of Energy, working at a nuclear weapons installation, and left as shift captain of highly trained armed personnel. "My entire career, in one way or another, has been in the security field, and I am honored to be appointed as the Director of Campus Safety," Perez said.
As Perez transitions into the new role, he said he has witnessed Campus Safety go through many changes as it strives to serve the Regis community. Perez offered the following reflection: "We have made strides in the areas of knowledge, customer service, compliance with federal and local laws, technology, and developing rapport with the Regis Community. As the Director of Campus Safety, I will strive to better our department in all these areas to a higher level of personal and professional satisfaction to better assist the community in which we serve. I would like to continue to educate our community in the areas of personal safety such as giving presentations on ALICE (Active Shooter response) and Refuse to Be a Victim. Finally, I would like to aid the university in complying with the Clery Act, which is a consumer protection law that provides transparency on its crime statistics, crime policies, and associated safety and security information."
Contacting the Campus Safety Department, which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, can be done in various ways. Contact Perez at eperez@regis.edu or 303-458-3585. The main number, which is answered 24 hours a day, is 303-458-4122. The department’s email, safety@regis.edu, is a non-emergency way of contacting the department. There are callboxes on the outside areas of campus, and they will call Campus Safety through the radio system or the phone line. Emergency phones that are located in the hallways of the Pomponio Science Building will call Campus Safety directly via telephone. Elevator phones and the Emergency Assistance buttons located outside of the elevators in Clarke Hall, DeSmet Hall, Boryla Apartments, and the Student Center will call a third party and obtain help.
Online non-emergency reporting is available to make reports on incidents that occur at either of our campuses and is available at Omnigo Software - Online Reporting Main. These reports can be made anonymously if desired and the above link is on our webpage. The Campus Safety website also includes valuable information such as the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, the Run, Hide, Fight video, RU Alert information, the Daily Crime Log, Emergency Preparedness Guide, and Crime Prevention Tips are a few areas.
"I am looking forward to working with the Regis community, and I invite everyone to come and visit us," Perez said. The department is currently located in Regis Square, Suite 28. In late July of this year, the department is looking forward to moving to West Hall.
