Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The Regis University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for overseeing the health and welfare of live vertebrate animals at Regis University, the Regis University Animal Facility, and for the review of research and teaching activities involving live vertebrate animals conducted at Regis University.

The basis of IACUC compliance is determined by the Federal Animal Welfare Act, the Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (hereafter called The Guide), and the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (hereafter called the PHS Policy).

In order to meet this compliance, IACUC assures that:

  • Reviews, at least semiannually, are conducted of the Regis program for the humane care and use of animals;
  • Inspect, at least semiannually, the Regis animal facilities;
  • Prepare reports of the IACUC evaluations;
  • Review animal welfare concerns;
  • Make recommendations on any aspect of the animal program, facilities, or personnel training;
  • Review and approve, those components of PHS conducted or supported activities related to the care and use of animals;
  • Review and approve, proposed significant changes to the use of animals in ongoing activities; and
  • Be authorized to suspend an activity involving animals.
