The DAISY Awards
An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died (at the age of 33) from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick’s family was very touched by the remarkable compassion and clinical skill demonstrated by Patrick’s nurses during his illness, so they created DAISY to recognize exceptional nurses everywhere. The DAISY Foundation is dedicated to saying Thank You to Nurses and is now proud to recognize Nursing Faculty for their mentoring of students and Nursing Students for their care of patients and their families. Nominations are accepted throughout the year, and award recipients are chosen and recognized at pinning ceremonies.

DAISY Faculty Award
Many nurses talk about “hearing an instructor’s voice” in their ears, even years after they have graduated. The DAISY Faculty Award provides national recognition and appreciation to nursing faculty for their commitment and inspirational influence on their students. We are very proud to partner with DAISY as we have extraordinary nursing faculty here at Regis University.
Eligibility:
Full time, part time or affiliate faculty in LHSON
Selection Criteria:
- Provides a learning environment that is individualized, innovating, supportive and motivating.
- Fosters a holistic, values-centered approach to teaching.
- Encourages meaningful interactions that enhance intellectual growth and professional development.
- Promotes intellectual curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, cultural sensitivity and a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Develops professional nursing competency based upon respect and caring for all individuals.
- Fosters the development of written and verbal communication skills that are fundamental to the mission and values.
- Supports opportunities for students and peers to contribute to the profession and community.
Nomination:
Anyone can nominate a faculty member for the DAISY faculty award. Nominations are blinded of name, specialty and location and are ranked by a rotating committee made up of faculty and/or previous DAISY award recipients.
DAISY In Training Award
There are other ways the foundation says thank you to nurses, including recognizing and celebrating nursing students who exemplify the delivery of clinical care in an extraordinary and compassionate way to patients and their families as they are learning. The DAISY in Training Award is designed to remind students, even on your toughest days in nursing school, why you want to be a nurse. We are very proud to partner with DAISY as we have extraordinary nursing students here at Regis University.
Eligibility:
Student nurse enrolled in nursing program at Regis University
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrates commitment to compassionate care of patients and families
- Makes a connection with patients, families and peers by building trust and respect
- Advocates strongly for patients
- Demonstrates exceptional skill
Nomination:
Anyone can nominate a student for the DAISY In Training award. Nominations are blinded of name, specialty and location and are ranked by the Student Nurses Association (RSNA) selection committee (1 volunteer from each cohort in each program - Traditional, CHOICE, Accelerated, RN-BSN, FNP, NNP, DNP and Masters Leadership programs).
