FAQs for the Transition to Online Courses

Q: Do students who live on campus need to return home to take classes online?

A: Regis University facilities will remain open, and students can continue to live in University housing as they continue their courses online.

Q: Will events still occur on campus?

A: All club sports and most intramurals are cancelled at this time. All Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competitions have been suspended through April 6. Regis University Ministry has suspended all Sunday and daily masses through the end of March.

Q: What are you doing to manage student food services?

A: Bon Appetit, our campus partner, will continue to provide food service as campus remains open. All self-serve options have been removed or relocated. Students can still access those food choices with the help of food service staff. We have also increased the frequency of facility cleaning services in high-traffic and communal areas.

Q: What is Regis doing to protect employees from COVID-19?

A: Regis University has asked all supervisors to discuss remote working options with their staff. Staff have been encouraged to practice self-care and to stay home if they feel ill.

Q. What is Regis doing to protect our nursing students currently completing rotations/placed in medical facilities?

“If your clinical site is still allowing students to participate you should plan on going to clinical.  If you are ill, have an underlying health condition that puts you at high risk, or live with someone at high risk, you may be excused from clinical.  We will work with you on making up the hours, most likely with virtual simulation activities.  Please discuss this with your faculty.  I would add that as nurses, we are often called to be at our best in a crisis.  Patients depend on all members of the health care team.  That being said, please make sure you use good handwashing and universal precautions as you have been trained.  Once in clinical, you may be filling critical roles.  I would encourage you to be as flexible and as helpful as possible on whatever unit you are placed in, and remember that assignments and duties may change throughout your day.”— Dean Osterlund.

Q: I am staying on campus, where can I access health services as a student?

A: Student Health Services remains open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., in order to see students. During this time however, we ask that ALL students call (303.458.3558) and make an appointment BEFORE walking over. This also helps staff to make any additional precautions needed for the appointment.

Q: When will the on-campus classes resume?

We expect online classes to continue through April 13. The University will continue to closely monitor developments and consult with public health officials. Please stay alert for updates.

Q: What are you doing for students that do not have laptops or internet access?

A: Computer labs on campus will remain open and available. We are continuing to examine this issue.

Work Study Questions

Q:  Will Student Work Studies continue to work and be paid while campus moves to online classes?

A: Students with work study can continue working on campus during the transition and should follow normal work procedures in terms of reporting and entering hours worked. Employees of the University, including work study students, can work remotely with permission of supervisors.

Q: Will students continue to be paid even if they don’t work?

A: No, the University is still open and operational. Although we are moving classes on line we still have students on campus that need services.

Q: Can students still work while classes are suspended and then moved to online?

A: Yes! They can continue to work as normally scheduled.

Q: Can students work more hours since classes will be online?

A: School is still in session so students should not exceed the 20-hour weekly limit for hours worked. Students also do not want to exceed the amount of their work study awards before the end of the term so they should plan to work their regular schedule.

Q: What if a student can’t perform their duties with the athletic or event cancellations?

A: Please identify other duties for them to perform.
