Additional Information Regarding COVID-19 Protocols

Symptom Monitoring

Last year, everyone working, living and learning from one of our campuses was required to complete a daily log of individual symptom monitoring via #CampusClear. Though we're suspending that requirement for vaccinated individuals for the 2021-22 academic year, every member of our community is still expected to monitor their symptoms, promptly test if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms, and then self-quarantine until receiving a negative test result, specifically a PCR test if unvaccinated.

This means staying in your room if you are a residential student or staying off campus if you are an employee or commuter student. You should continue to self-quarantine until you receive a negative test and are symptom-free for 24 hours without medication. We expect an increase in viral and bacterial infections other than COVID-19, such as flu, but symptomatic individuals still must test for COVID-19 and self-quarantine to prevent spread.

Testing and positive case reporting

The University’s Student Health Services department offers testing on the Northwest Denver campus by appointment, or will assist symptomatic or exposed students in getting a test at centers near the University: https://covid19.colorado.gov/testing

Students

If a student reports that she/he/they have tested positive, or a close contact like a roommate has tested positive, they should contact the Dean of Students immediately. They also can use the #CampusClear app or this form to report a positive test.

Faculty and Staff

If an employee reports that they have tested positive, they are to notify Human Resources immediately. They also can use the #CampusClear app or this form to report a positive test.

When to Quarantine

  • If you are not vaccinated and have been in close contact (within 6 feet of someone, without a mask, for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who has COVID-19, you are required to quarantine (strictly limit movement) and seek a COVID-19 test, either at Student Health Services or at a state testing center: https://covid19.colorado.gov/testing

Note: People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after close contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms. Fully vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.

When to Isolate

  • You have a positive COVID-19 test.
  • You have symptoms of COVID-19: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html
  • You are getting ill and think you might have COVID-19. Symptoms, especially early on, may be mild and feel like a common cold. Early symptoms could include a combination of cough, body aches, fatigue, and chest tightness. Some people may not develop fever or fever may not appear until several days into the illness.

School or Childcare Facility Required Quarantines or Closures

We have received a number of questions regarding schools and childcare facilities in the event they close for an extended period of time and/or if a child of an employee needs to quarantine. Primarily, we have been asked if employees will be allowed to work remotely to care for their child and/or if they have to take a leave of absence.

Supervisors are advised to work with their employees to work from home at the same time they are caring for a child or other dependent during state-recognized emergency situations. In these instances, employees may use up to 80 hours of Colorado Paid Sick leave (based on your full-time equivalent FTE) or if available, accrued paid leave time (vacation or sick leave) as approved by their supervisor. Please consult Human Resources if you need to utilize the Colorado Paid Sick leave. If accrued time has been exhausted, staff may be placed in unpaid status if unable to work from home. Faculty members will need to work with their chair and/or dean.

Current Cleaning Protocols

Safety continues to be of the utmost importance. We are continuing with safety and cleaning protocols. Specifically, common areas and frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned twice daily. We will also provide sanitizer dispensers in entry areas and wipes as needed in common areas. We have special protocols to high clean any contaminated area.
