CSRE Scholarship and Grants Workshops

The Center for Scholarship and Research Engagement is continuing its series of workshops designed to help faculty achieve their goals related to scholarship and research. Following the lead of our new Provost, we will offer faculty time, expertise, and space to reflect on their scholarly work. We are organizing the following 5 opportunities and are excited to solicit requests to participate. All groups will be facilitated by Chris Roberts, Ph.D. Director of the Center for Scholarship and Research Engagement.

1: Learning Grants: A no experience necessary monthly meeting time to discuss all things related to grants and creating a research agenda. Topics that will be covered could include: finding opportunities, thinking through your work in a time of transition between career goals, how to navigate federal and internal regulatory requirements, help thinking financially about projects and budgets, or other areas of great interest to the participants

2: Grant Writers Group: A regular series of virtual meetups (weekly or bi-weekly) for a group of 5-8 faculty who are interested in writing a grant now. Chris Roberts will take you through the process, help you with your narratives, provide resources for translating your work into a grant, and provide comments on drafts of your proposals. You don’t need to have a specific opportunity in mind, but you should have a project that you want to accomplish.

3: Grant Applications: A monthly series focused on what goes into a typical grant application to the NSF, NIH, or DoD. We will spend a few sessions on how to prepare for the typical components of a grant narrative (e.g., Lit Reviews, Intellectual Merit/Broader Impact statements) and take some of the mystery out of the myriad extra forms and appendices that seem to be required (e.g., Current and Pending Support; Facilities and Equipment, etc.).

4: From Desk to Print: Do you have something sitting on your desk that you just can’t find the time or energy to write up and submit for publication? This group is right for you. This group will meet regularly and focus on providing support and accountability to scholars looking for that extra push or help with getting their manuscripts to press.

5: Junior Scholars Writing Club: The past year and a half has presented an unusual amount of extreme challenges to our university community. This is particularly true for junior faculty who really had to hit the ground running and spend a lot of time focused on how to teach in quite varied conditions. The goal of this group is to provide help and support to junior faculty (ideally those who started after August 1, 2019, but open to anyone of a junior rank) with the specific challenges the pandemic or the cyberattack has created for their research and publishing agendas.
