Learn more about Regis cybersecurity initiatives

Welcome

We would like to introduce you to Nick Caldwell. He’s our new staff member in IT that is specifically focused on cyber security. In the coming months you will receive communications outlining initiatives to continuously improve our security posture at Regis University.

This is the start of a new cadence for sharing topics like tips on how to identify threats and best practices, compliance regulations, new university tools and technologies, process enhancements and how-tos.

We’d like to thank our community for their commitment to, and understanding of, the importance that comes with security in our everyday lives. We look forward to working together as a team to safeguard our digital environment from threats.

Travel Notifications

It’s that time of year again when we start making plans to visit out-of-state family and friends for the holidays. Did you know threat actors love this time of year too? They’ll try to take advantage of the potential confusion when a user logs in from a new and geographically different location.

While Regis has systems in place to mitigate this type of confusion, just like when you update your bank when traveling, it’s best practice to notify your ITS team to avoid being locked out of your account. We are asking that you help our team by following this quick and easy notification process outlined below:

What: Notify ITS when you will be using Regis tools when traveling out of state.

How: Call the Help Desk (303) 458-4050, or submit a ticket through ServiceNow.

Our Roadmap

Everyone at Regis University has an important part to play in ensuring our systems and data are safe. An ongoing goal is to continuously improve the security posture of our community. ITS has several new and enhanced security features that will be introduced in the next weeks/months.

  • Compliance
    • In addition to our team’s commitment to securing our community, Regis is now required to adhere to GLBA. These federally mandated requirements will complement the additional technologies we are implementating as outlined below.
  • Technologies
    • A requirement of GLBA is to secure our Regis systems with Multi-Factor-Authentication (MFA) to access all Regis systems. We currently have MFA (Duo) enforced on Workday, Learning Management System (WorldClass) and Virtual Desktops. The ITS team will provide more detailed information and instructions soon.
    • ITS will be migrating from Carbon Black’s Endpoint Protection solution to Microsoft365 Defender.
  • Security Training
    • Security Awareness Training provided by Regis is designed to help you effectively identify potential cyber-attacks you may encounter in email or on the web and how to avoid them. To align with GLBAcompliance and follow best practices, this security training is now to be completed on a quarterly basis.
      • New Schedule and notifications to below.
        • November (rescheduled)
        • January
        • April
        • July
        • October – (Cyber Security Awareness Month)
      • Email
        • ITS is making it easier than ever for you to leverage your security training to report on suspicious emails you may come across. We will be adding a button on the upper right corner of Outlook so you can quickly and easily report these emails directly to your security team for review.

Communication is important! We are expanding our monthly ‘Virtual Coffee with Chuck’ to cover all things IT. We’ll discuss topics related to current IT issues, projects, policy, best practices, and future roadmaps. We also intend for the meeting to be an open forum for community members to speak with IT staff and ask questions they may have. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • When: First Monday of each month, 2 p.m. MST
  • What: Open discussion about all things related to Regis IT
  • Who: Regis ITS staff and community
  • Where: Zoom
