A Letter from Acting President Kevin F. Burke, S.J.

Dear Regis University Community,

I am writing you in my new (though temporary) role as Acting President of Regis.

I am genuinely grateful and excited that the Regis Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Salvador Aceves to be the next president of Regis University. With you, I look forward to working with him in the New Year and the years ahead. Congratulations Salvador! And thank you for accepting the responsibility of leading our beloved University.

I also want to take this opportunity to recognize, honor, and above all, thank Cody Teets for the tremendous job she has done leading Regis as Interim President during the last twelve months. Cody brought abundant energy, hard work, grit, and good humor to the president’s office and she helped see Regis through a critical time of transition. She honored us with her ability to listen to every individual she came across and to see all of us with new eyes. I am personally grateful to Cody for her profound care for our mission and her desire that we thrive as individuals and as a community. Please join me in thanking her for her amazing contributions to Regis!

We are approaching a most sacred time of the year in the Christian calendar and one of the best of times in our academic rhythm: the holiday break between semesters! Even though we have many academic programs that schedule courses year-round, nevertheless this is a time for each of us to pause, take deep breaths, and feel gratitude for the gift of our lives. In this northern hemisphere, we will soon mark the winter solstice, too. The days will begin to lengthen and we will begin to prepare for spring with its abundance of new life and growth. I want to ask all of us to take serious time off during our “Gift of Time.” Let us spend quality time with family members and friends. Let us renew our spirits, our best selves. This advice I have learned from my favorite poet, Denise Levertov:

Get down into your well,
it’s your well
go deep into it
into your own depth as into a poem.

Let us enter into ourselves in the days ahead and, as we return to work in the new calendar year, let us begin together an exciting new stage in the journey that is Regis University.

With deep gratitude,

Kevin F. Burke, S.J.
