Unplug During the Gift of Time

Regis University administration requests that all personnel turn off and unplug electronic devices, appliances, equipment and decorations when leaving campus for holiday breaks, especially for the Gift of Time campus closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Please be aware that, up to the morning of December 23, Physical Plant staff will conduct “plug audits” in all campus spaces. These audits will confirm that lights, decorations, refrigerators, microwaves, computers and all other electrical items have been shut off and unplugged. If anything is left on, the device will be turned off.

Here are some tips for preparing your space for the break:

  • Remove all food from refrigerators and microwaves before unplugging.
  • Remove any prohibited items that may have appeared in your space. Prohibited items include:
    • candles
    • space heaters
    • extension cords that are over 6 feet long and/or are not U/L rated with surge protection

Prohibited items found during plug audits may be confiscated or result in a citation.

Please also pull down all blinds to at least ¾ of the length of the window and turn them so that they are “facing up.” This assists with retaining natural heat and light. See the image for clarification.

If you manage an area that requires equipment to remain on, please send an email to lfarrowharris@regis.edu describing the equipment, the location and details about why it must remain on. This information will be provided to the administration for final approval. Research labs in Claver Hall and Pomponio Science Building will not be affected, including the animal house OCH IT area.

The Physical Plant thanks you for your cooperation and wishes you a wonderful Winter Break!
