The evening will include taped remarks by Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser as well as a screening clip of the film. Through riveting firsthand testimony of witnesses and survivors who as children endured persecution, violence and flight as their families tried to escape Hitler,  The U.S & The Holocaust delves deeply into the tragic human consequences of public indifference, bureaucratic red tape, and restrictive quota laws in America.

Following the screening clip, there will be a panel discussion led by Dr. Dan Leshem, Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) at JEWISHcolorado. Panelists will include Adam Rovner, PH.D., Director of the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver; Estelle Nadel, a Holocaust survivor; Pamela Roth, the daughter of Holocaust survivors; and Todd Hennessy, co-founder of Colorado Holocaust Educators. Get your ticket.

ODEIE hosts infomational session on HSI

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence hosted the first university-wide informational session and dialogue on our efforts to become a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The two-hour dialogue took place last Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Mountain View Room. Faculty, staff and students learned what the designation means and how it is aligned with our Jesuit mission. Rich discussions between students, administrators, staff, and faculty ensued and are helping to shape our work to become only the second Jesuit university in the United States to earn HSI status and to lean into what it truly means to be a Hispanic Serving Institution. Our values compel us to offer a culturally affirming experience for not only our Hispanic students, but for all our students and employees, as well as to live up to our responsibility to be a voice and force for justice in our larger Hispanic community. For more information, please contact Dr. Rene Gonzalez, Program Manager for HSI initiatives, at gonza385@regis.edu or our general email at diverse@regis.edu

Regis will welcome approximately 150 high school students from Denver area schools on campus to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The students will be displaying mini-altars they have created on the second floor of Main Hall. While here for the day, they will be given a tour of campus, enjoy lunch and watch the movie Coco. Please be sure to welcome our guests when you see them walking around!

In addition, Regis students will put on events throughout the day, with an event for commuter students starting at 3:30 p.m. followed by a dialogue at 4 p.m. with students about the cultural significance of the day.

At 5:15 p.m., a Mass will be offered in Spanish in the St. John Francis Regis Chapel, along with other events for our university and neighborhood community. Coco will be shown again for Regis students at 7 p.m. in the Mountain View Room following the Mass.
