Kemp to serve as interim dean of library

We are pleased to announce that Kimberly Kemp will be serving as the Interim Dean for the Dayton Memorial Library effective Oct. 1, 2022. Kimberly joined the library faculty in 2013 as the Health Science Librarian serving RHCHP. She attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where she completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in biology, nutrition & food science and library science. Her over 25 years of library experience includes government, environmental, corporate, public and academic libraries.  Prior to becoming a librarian, Kimberly worked in the food industry in quality control and research & development. She has served on committees and boards of various library associations including the Colorado Council of Medical Librarians. She manages copyediting for Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal here at Regis and has taught NR 350, Normal and Therapeutic Nutrition for LHSON.  Kimberly has 3 children, 2 of whom are Regis students. When Kimberly is not on campus, she is hiking with her dogs Nala and Peggy, cycling on the local trails or planning the library’s next group Halloween costume.

We will begin the search process for a new Dean of the Library very soon. We will take some time to survey the community to ensure that we are seeking a leader with the skills and disposition necessary to lead the library and the broader university into the future. 

I also want to take this time to again thank Erin McCaffrey for her leadership and her service to the Regis community. She has been a thoughtful partner and a collaborative leader for approximately 20 years at Regis. She has led several initiatives and has guided the library in a positive direction. The definition of a humble and effective leader, she is one who listened more than she spoke, and exemplified the Regis mission in word and in deed. We will all miss you Erin and look forward to seeing what you will accomplish in the future.

Strategic Planning update

The Strategic Planning Committee has met three times, and the work is progressing well. The committee has reviewed all of the data from the SWOT analysis, the Mission Priority Examen, the Student Survey, previous strategic initiatives and plans, and external higher education information. The committee is just beginning to distill the information into pillars. 

We will continue to update the broader community with the progress of this group. We also want to remind everyone that this will be an iterative process. Preliminary ideas will be shared broadly for feedback and refinement.

Health and Exercise Science achieves initial accreditation

Our Health and Exercise Science program was awarded initial accreditation by the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES) and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors on Sept. 16, 2022.  Congratulations to Dr. Erin Choice, Assistant Professor and Program Director and the entire HES program faculty for achieving this initial accreditation.

Innovation Challenge kicks off this month

The 2023 Regis Innovation Challenge will kick off on Oct. 26.  Check out the website for details, follow the Challenge on social media, and stay tuned for emails/class announcements. The Innovation Challenge supports startups and new businesses by providing mentorship, access to speakers and an extended ecosystem of support and encouragement (as well as some potential for investment!). There are multiple ways to participate: bring a new business, bring an idea, or join a startup team (we have seen our graduates get jobs with these companies).

One community startup has already signed up for the Innovation Challenge. Fair Market Health is a Kansas City-based startup looking to enter the Colorado healthcare space and utilizing the Innovation Challenge to grow their network of support and get in front of executives and potential investors.  As a community startup, they need a current student on their team to compete and are looking for an MBA student to help them develop their market and traction here.  Please encourage students to participate and share with all Anderson students. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to try their skills to help a business grow!  Contact Dr. Ken Sagendorf for more information. 

Physical Therapy participates in Hanger Mobility Clinic

Last month Dr. Amy Rich and several of our DPT students participated in the Hanger Mobility Clinic at Echo Park in Parker, Colorado. The clinic hosted an amputee running clinic, showing running techniques for patients with limb loss. For many of the participants, it was their first time using a running leg, and they were beyond excited to have this opportunity. Along with the running clinic, participants were offered a chance to try adaptive archery and adaptive biking. This event is a unique opportunity as it allows the participants to try out different types of prosthetics and see which one suits them best. The Hanger Mobility Clinic gave people with limb differences a chance to get together and learn what else is available, along with being able to form lasting friendships with other individuals in the community.   

Hoffman will consult with Ukrainian Ministry of Health leaders

Dr. Larisa Hoffman, professor, School of Physical Therapy, is flying to Poland to consult with Ukraine leaders from the Ministry of Health. Larisa, the only attendee affiliated with Regis, will meet with program directors and curricular chairs from five different Ukrainian Physical and Occupational Therapy educational programs to prepare healthcare providers on how to better meet the healthcare needs of their community members. The organizer of the event is Physiopedia, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide education and advocacy for physiotherapists around the world. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss a roadmap for strengthening University curriculum in Occupational and Physical Therapy.

The Office of Marketing and Communications will offer drop-in sessions for current faculty and staff headshots. No appointment necessary. Join us Oct. 7 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in Main Hall, Room 424.
