Student Work-Study Reflection

Hello! My name is Julian Mendoza, I am from Dallas, Texas, and a first-year student here at Regis University. I am currently undecided on a major, but I am looking into a double major in Marketing and Psychology to fulfill my love for science and digital media. I decided to come to Regis to explore my out-of-state options and be immersed in a small campus community. Since coming to Regis my whole life plan has changed, and the resources here have really influenced me to pursue what I love. College is a challenging and rigorous environment, and many students fail to take care of themselves when it comes to mental health. Regis has really helped me adapt to the environment, and since campus is so small finding someone to talk to has been easy. Being able to reach out to faculty and just talk to them about whatever is going on has helped me be better adapted here. I also work here on campus in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence as an office assistant. Being able to work in an open environment where my supervisor, students, staff, and faculty work together to benefit the community is something I have always wanted to do. I'm glad Regis gave me the opportunity to seek resources to benefit me and work in a positive and supportive environment that makes a difference on campus.

HSI Update

Regis joined the newly formed Colorado Consortium for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) led by Dr. Robert Montoya, the Chief Education Equity Office for the Colorado Department of Higher Education. The Colorado Consortium will be a community of practice model that will connect similar minded institutions to provide HSI support and guidance.

Regis will work with "Excelencia" in Education, a nationwide leader that uses evidence-based practices to accelerate Latino/a/x student success. Excelencia in Education recognizes colleges and universities for intentionally SERVING Latino/a/x students and for demonstrating positive student outcomes by provided a "SEAL" of Excelencia to specific colleges and universities. Our goal is to collaborate with Excelencia in Education to obtain the SEAL of Excelencia for our HSI initiatives.

Lastly, Regis is anxiously awaiting official notice from the U.S. Department of Education regarding HSI designation status. The U.S. Department of Education stated they will notify all eligible educational institutions in the United States regarding their official HSI designation in the month of January.
