ITS introduces new classroom technology and virtual desktop tool

Good News from ITS!

New Classroom Technology and New Virtual Desktop Tool

* To use the new classroom technology at Regis, users must access and use their Virtual Desktops (e.g. VDI) that will require a Cell Phone with the DUO application.* More details below.

The ITS department has begun upgrading classroom technology all over Regis’ campuses with new audio-visual (AV) equipment, new in-room computers, and some with new built-in Hybrid/Zoom capable equipment. Below is a list of both the additions and changes to Regis’ standard classroom technology package:

Upgraded Classroom Additions:

  • *Faculty and students are required to log into their Regis Virtual Desktop on the in-room PCs to access class materials and programs like PowerPoint, One Drive, all Microsoft Programs, etc.*
  • New Laser Projector Display(s)
  • Podiums equipped with a new in-room PC, new 22” monitor display, and new keyboard and mouse
  • New simplified AV Touch-panel that controls the system and projector power, projector input options, volume controls, audio mute, and video mute
  • Cables on podium for connectivity
    • HDMI cable for external laptop connection
    • USB-C cable for external laptop/device connection (typically used for MacBook's)
    • A auxiliary USB cable connection is intended for ITS troubleshooting, and is not recommended for user purposes.
  • New cameras and ceiling microphones for hybrid/Zoom capabilities in certain classrooms (currently only in: MNH 139, MNH 305, PCH 4, SCI 137, SCI 313). More to come soon!

Obsolete Classroom Changes:

  • VGA external laptop connections have been removed
  • DVD/VHS players have been removed
    • To browse the library’s streaming media collections, please visit https://libguides.regis.edu/streaming or you may search LumenPlus – the Library Catalog. If you would like to request a streaming title from our collections or if you have been using a DVD or VHS in class and now need a streaming version, you may place a request via the Streaming Request Form. The Library will attempt to purchase a digitally licensed streaming version. If no such version is available for licensing, a digitization request may be considered while observing Fair Use Copyright Law.

Digitization requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will take up to two weeks per title to complete. Faculty are strongly encouraged to submit requests for digitization several weeks in advance of the date it is needed.

  • Document Cameras or Overhead Projectors have been removed
  • The use of Flash/Thumb Drives is no longer recommended, for security purposes.
    • The cloud-based storage options below provide additional security layers to protect from vulnerabilities (ransomware, malware, viruses, etc.)
    • All Regis users have access to cloud-based file storage options:
      • OneDrive for individual file storage
      • SharePoint for departmental/shared file storage

Your Regis Virtual Desktop

Regis now offers a personalized Virtual Desktop for each Regis faculty, staff, and student to use.

  • A Virtual Desktop is like a computer that resides in the cloud here at Regis:
    • Can be accessed on any computer through the Virtual Desktop application (VMware Horizon Client).
    • Offers a familiar Windows desktop experience with standardized software loads for all users
    • Provides central management capabilities (security updates, patches, software delivery, etc.)

Lastly, below is a growing list of educational resources and in-person training opportunities for how to access your Regis Virtual Desktop and use the new classroom technology.
