Energy Conservation Management Policy

The Energy Conservation/Management Policy was initiated by the Office of the Provost and supported by the Office of the President when the policy was adopted. The standards set forth in the policy follow guidance from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) following climate control parameters.

During the summer all facilities on campus have a cooling set point of 75 degrees and heating in the winter is set to 70 degrees. The Environmental Protection Administration recommends 77-degree cooling and 68-degree heating. While these temperatures may not be comfortable for all, we set them to maintain our sustainability standards. Because of Colorado’s volatile climate, we recommend dressing in layers to prepare for temperature change.

If the temperature in your space is making you, your roommates or your colleagues uncomfortable, and the thermostat reads 69 or below in the winter, or 76 or above in the summer, please notify your RA in the dorms or the person in your department who is designated to place a work order with the Physical Plant.

As always, call Campus Safety at 303.458.4122 in the event of an emergency (as defined by risk of life limb or asset). If phone lines are down, check RU Alerts for an alternate phone number to contact Campus Safety.

To help keep your space cool while the temperatures outside are soaring, please do the following...Keep windows closed . Close blinds • Keep the slats of your blinds turned up to deflect heat away from the room • If the hallway is cool, your room will cool more quickly if you leave your door open until it feels more comfortable If the temperature in your space is making you, your roommates and/or workmates uncomfortable, and the thermostat is reading less than 69 or more than 76 (plus or minus more than a degree outside of the University's conservation set point standard temperatures), please notify your RA in the dorms or the person in your department who is designated to place a work order with the Physical Plant.
