How to participate in the inaugural Service Week 2025

This year, in the spirit of a Spring Convocation to welcome everyone to the new year, the Office of the Provost will be holding an inaugural Service Week. Calling on the Jesuit value of being people in the service for and with others, we want to encourage the Regis community to engage in service whenever and however they are able. These can be team efforts or individual engagements, they can be with community-based organizations or efforts right here on campus, the overall goal is to connect in ways that allow you to physically and/or in solidarity walk alongside someone.

Coinciding with Service Week is the recognition of the Julia Greeley Service Award recipient. Our inaugural recipient is Fr. Kevin Burke, Vice President for Mission. We will provide more details on Fr. Burke’s commitment to service and we will hear words for reflection and inspiration from Fr. Burke over the next few weeks.

2025 Spring Convocation: Service Week Opportunities

(Please add/include your own!)
  • Log your engagement via 2025 Service Week Tracking.
  • We encourage you to incorporate time for reflection on your service. Be that a daily examen during the week of the 20th with an eye towards the value of service, or reflecting on the following questions:
    • What happened? What did you observe? What issue is being addressed or population is being served? What was of particular notice? How did you feel about that?
    • How was your experience different from what you expected? What struck you about that? How was that significant? What impacts the way you view the situation/experience? (What lens are you viewing from?)
    • What seem to be the root causes of the issue/problem addressed? What kinds of activities are currently taking place in the community related to this project? What would you like to learn more about, related to this project or issue? What future acts of service do you think you’d like to pursue?

  • Jan. 17 – King’s Legacy Panel (12:30 p.m., Claver 328)
  • Jan. 20 – MLK Jr. Marade in Denver
    • The first Denver Marade was on Jan. 20, 1986. State Rep. Wilma Webb coined the name and said it meant to parade and celebrate the victories achieved in combating injustices that had occurred, and march non-violently to always confront injustices in the future wherever they may be.
    • A Regis bus will leave Lot 3 (Student Center) at 9 a.m. Sign-up Here
    • After a program in City Park, the Marade begins around 10:30 a.m.
    • The 36-passenger bus will leave Civic Center Park at 12:15 p.m. and return to campus by 1 p.m.
    • Regis Community members are also welcome to meet us at City Park before the Marade step off.
