Presidential Transition

Dear Regis Community,

I write to share important news about a leadership transition at Regis University. President Salvador D. Aceves has informed the Board of Trustees of his decision to step down as President to accept the presidency of his alma mater, the University of San Francisco, a fellow Jesuit Catholic institution.

This news does not affect the forward momentum Regis has been collectively working towards over the last few years. At its meetings last week, the Board of Trustees reviewed and unanimously approved the FY26 budget, following a comprehensive presentation of the strategic and unit-level plans developed by our Senior Leadership Team. These plans are grounded in our Jesuit Catholic mission and are already guiding Regis toward greater clarity, focus, and long-term vitality.

We are deeply grateful to our faculty and staff who have walked with grace and resolve. The difficult decisions made—and carried out with courage, integrity, and care—were necessary to position Regis for a more sustainable and mission-aligned future. These choices were not easy, yet they are already creating a foundation for renewed strength and opportunity.

The Board has full confidence in the ability of the Senior Leadership Team to continue implementing this important work. Under their direction, Regis is advancing efforts to reimagine and build the university our mission calls us to be. We are particularly encouraged by their focus on student success, institutional health, mission integration, and community impact.

President Aceves will remain with Regis until the fall, giving time and space for thoughtful discernment on next steps. Looking ahead, the Board will appoint an interim president in the coming weeks to ensure stability, continuity, and momentum during this transition. We are also in close communication with our Jesuit provincial leadership to ensure Regis remains deeply rooted in its Jesuit Catholic identity and fulfills its role as a vital apostolic work of the Jesuits.

Finally, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to express our deepest thanks to President Aceves for his collaborative, principled, and mission-driven leadership in his varied roles over the past 11 years. He leaves Regis stronger, more focused, and better prepared for the future.

With gratitude,
