High Wind Warning for Dec. 17
Please be advised that although this wind event may feel like “just a big wind,” its strength is comparable to a Category 1 hurricane or higher. Your safety is our top priority. Please take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors whenever possible to avoid exposure to hazardous conditions.
- Avoid parking vehicles on the leeward side of parking lots, particularly near trees or large vegetation.
- Do not stand under trees or near large branches, as strong winds may cause breakage or falling debris.
- If you encounter a downed power line, do not approach it. Immediately report it to Campus Safety at extension 4122.
- If someone is on the ground near a downed line, call 911 first, then notify Campus Safety.
- This is also a good opportunity to remind yourself of the locations of AED units around campus (see the attached map).
- Stay away from windows that face the wind. Close blinds or curtains if available for added protection.
- If you experience a power outage, remain calm. Staff from the Physical Plant or Campus Safety will provide guidance as soon as possible.
- If you feel unsafe or are in urgent need of assistance, use your cell phone to call for help:
- Campus Safety: 303.458.4122
- Emergency (immediate danger): 911
- Please be aware that response times may be delayed during severe weather conditions.
Thank you for taking steps to keep yourself and others safe,
Your Friends in the Physical Plant
