Save Colorado Students’ Access to Need-Based Financial Aid
Dear Regis community,
We are writing to provide an urgent update to the proposed budget cuts for state need-based financial aid. In a previous communication, we shared news that $14 million was cut from state need-based financial aid, with a footnote directing that this funding reduction would only affect Colorado students attending private institutions of higher education like Regis.
We’ve learned this morning that the Colorado Senate has passed Amendment L.001 to the budget, which will turn the footnote from the bill into an amendment to state law, ensuring that it is enforceable.
The current statutes [CRS 23-3.7-101 and 23-3.7-103] and Colorado Commission on Higher Education policy are clear – financial aid is intended for all Colorado students. The remaining $268 million of financial aid should be allocated to all Colorado students, regardless of their institution of choice.
Your action is needed now to protect Regis students and families.
As the amendment is reviewed by the House today, there is still time to make your voice heard. We urge you reach out to your local legislators – state senators, representatives, members of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and those within the Governor’s office or any other key decision makers – and share with them:
- Strip the Amendment L.001 and ensure that need-based financial aid is accessible to all Colorado students.
- How critical need-based financial aid is for all of Colorado’s students, including the often underserved and first-generation students who rely on this aid.
Please use this resource to find your local legislators and consider using this sample letter, which you can adjust to your specific needs.
Once you have reached out to your local legislators, please complete the form below to assist in tracking our community and lobbying efforts on behalf of Regis students.
We urge you to share this message with your Colorado network. We are grateful for your swift action and commitment to our community.
