Energy Management Guidelines

Regis University has established parameters for practical energy management. All thermostats are set to 75°F for cooling and 69°F for heating. This means that when a thermostat registers 76°F, the cooling system will activate. Likewise, when a thermostat reaches 68°F, the heating system will activate.

With this information in mind, it is important to understand that during periods of hot weather, when outdoor temperatures reach 95°F, the cooling systems can generally maintain an indoor temperature of 75°F, provided the equipment is operating properly. For every degree the outdoor temperature rises above 95°F, the indoor temperature may also increase as the cooling systems reach their performance limits. In general, our cooling systems can offset outdoor temperatures by approximately 20 degrees or less.

It is also important to note that some high-occupancy event spaces have seating limits established in accordance with Fire Department codes. Examples include:

• Main Hall 417 – Maximum occupancy: 120
• Main Hall Conference Space 333 – Maximum occupancy: 85
• Claver Hall Mountain View Room – Maximum event seating occupancy: 180

We have entered into a critical period of high temperatures in the region. Due to these extreme conditions, we anticipate that some equipment may experience breakdowns. If temperatures remain in the mid-90s for several consecutive days, buildings may be unable to adequately reject accumulated heat, resulting in additional discomfort and indoor temperature challenges.
