Help Protect Our Champion Weeping Elm

The Weeping Elm, one of Regis University's Champion Trees, is located near the northwest corner of O'Connell Hall. This remarkable veteran tree has exceeded its typical life expectancy and continues to thrive because of careful stewardship.

Like all mature trees, the majority of its absorbing roots lie just below the soil surface. Repeated foot traffic beneath the canopy compacts the soil, reducing the oxygen, water and nutrients available to the root system. With the current drought conditions, mature trees are under additional environmental stress, making protection of the root zone more important than ever.

We respectfully ask that tours and pedestrian traffic remain outside the tree's drip line. If access beneath the canopy is necessary for an approved tour or event, please contact the Physical Plant Department in advance.
